Treatment 1- A day in the life of a falcorite
Everybody has a fantasy world, and “A day in the life of a Falcorite” is based in an imaginary world which is inhabited by people half bird half human. This animated short that will go approximately five minutes, and will take the audience into this world and experienced what it is like to live as one of the inhabitants.
Kids, teenagers and adults alike love fantasy stories such as star wars, the dark crystal, labyrinth, Harry Potter and Avatar so there forth this will be the demographic chosen for this short. The film will include flying, hunting and fighting scenes to keep the older audience interested, but will also include a relatable, loving family and friendship scene to also give good morals to the younger audience. However the plot will include the fighting scenes that may frighten the younger audience.
The orientation will start of in a cave on the side of a large mountain known as the sky stone, and is the home of the Falcorites. In this opening scene we will start to give each character their identities and introduce the plot to the story. The animated short will start off with a view of the whole mountain then zooming into the cave and from there we will mainly shoot MCU and CU to focus on a character or two characters arguing or talking. The plot starts to come in when the father and eldest son of family go out to hunting to feed the family, but after they catch their prey, a small flock of krawka (described in paragraph 4) come into the story and try to kill the two falcorites and steal their catch. This will go into a battle scene that will have include shots that are close up, so that it can show half of the falcorite’s face with the krawka flying right behind them; long shots, to get a view of the battlefield; and medium close ups to view two creatures fighting, however this scene also will include some slow motion to make the battle seem more epic, and to also show how these mythical creatures/characters fight when in battle. The two falcorites then defeat the Krawka and fly of back to the sky stone while the camera zooms out them and the story comes to a close. However to create a good story, we need to include character development so the audience will also feel emotions towards them.
The creatures in this new world will have to look real, as well as being aerodynamic to not make this story seem unrealistic. The design of these new mystical creatures, Falcorites and Krawka, are going to base of wing suit designs; they will have skin that is located at their wrist and ends at their waist and is covered in feathers; flacorites have a mixture of black, grey and brown; Krawka have plain black. In flight, this skin will become stiff and hard and will serve the purpose of being their wings, but when walking becomes relaxed and loose so to make their arms more movable, they will also have a similar type of skin between their legs, however it is retractable and only retracts when in flight. Their elbows will be double jointed so they can turn their arms to be at it 270 digress so to make flapping their wings easier, they will also have a more talon like foot structure; the rest of their body is mainly human however they will also have feathers running across their arms. The falcorites will dress in a cave man sort of style- animal clothing; however Krawka are will dress in a black type of snake skin to match the colour of their feathers. The two main characters in this story will be the Adult male falcorite whose name will be Krato and was chosen because he will be a relatable father who does anything to protect his family; he will have dark, brown hair with charcoal eyes with a long scar running on down the right side of his face while also having many other small scars across his body, so he has that battle veteran sort of look; the eldest son, lucro, was chosen because he will show what it’s like to live as a teenager falcorite and the responsibilities they carry; he will have a happy, look-on-the-bright-side sort of nature, and will have a typical falcorite look whilst having black hair and brown eyes, however he also has two feathers at the top of his fore-head head that stick up like horns which is uncommon to have among falcorites; however there will also be the other members of the family: Kylara, the mother who will act as a typical human mother with the appearance of long, sleek black hair and dark blue eyes that are slightly black; lucio, the younger sister to Lucro, who has a much lighter coloured feather pattern with brown-blonde hair and brown eyes whilst also not getting along well with lucro and tends to be jealous of him and argues with parents decision- like a typical young teenager; and renelle, the youngest girl and child of the family was chosen to be a typical, questioning young girl with dark black hair and has the charcoal eyes of her father. This family all live in the sky stone, as I mentioned early, which is located in a world not know by us.
This new world will be similar to ours in appearance, while at the same time being very unique. There are going to be many new creatures and plants as well as types here on our own planet, but unfortunately due to this being a short, the audience will not see all of the new, creative creatures. The sky stone will be very much like a large rock mountain that contain many large hollow/caves to support the falcorite inhabitants; and is surrounded by a forest that lies close to a beach. The plot’s location will be shot a fair distance away from the sky stone above a rainforest that will contain trees such as: Black bean, Antarctic beech, canopy, kapok; all the really forestry type of trees, however there will also be new types of fruit trees, as well as a plant that will relate to a Venus fly trap but increased in size. But to give more emotion and feeling to this mystical world, we will need to include sounds and other creative noises.
The Music in “A day in the life of a falcorite” was chosen to give a sense of freedom, adventure and to provide a natural feel. The orientation starts off with the song “The gathering” by Winifred Phillips which was released in 2010, and was chosen because it gives a good welcoming effect to the story and has a nice relaxing feel. The battle scene will be accompanied by the song “The wings of Icarus” that was made by celldweller 2011; this song was chosen because it has a great battle theme strung to it, and will make the battle seem more epic. The last scene and the credits will have the song “fall into the sky” by trancecrafter in the background as it gives a sense of accomplishment and freedom, while also having a really cheerful nature to it: Making the ending to the story feel more bright and complete.
“A day in the life of a Falcorite.” Is an amazing short film that will leave the audience wanting to immerse deeper into the world of the Falcorites. This film will leave a stunned audience with an unforgettable experience into what it’s like to live as a typical Falcorite in an unsual world full of legends, myths, mystery and adventure.
