Old Cags is a crazy wolf that is infected with the foaming mouth disease (also known as rabies in the human language) that has never died. He thrives off of names. Yes, names. The MacHeath clan sends down disobedient pups to old cags. He stumbles and staggers around if he doesn't have a pup to, in the owl language, moon blink. Chanting the phrase above will drive the animal crazy-when Cags has a name, his gait is sure and steady. The MacHeath clan worships this crazy creature.
If an animal comes down into the pit, you chant the words above (but you don't put Edme, you put the animals name but ONLY if it gives it to you). Thus, the creature will be moon blinked and freed from the pit. A moon blinked creature is completely obedient but usually dies in the first moon it is out of the pit.
